I sincerely hope everyone is healthy and happy out there, and continuing to train in any way you can. I was lucky enough to do a kickboxing class this week at home, which was a great work out, and presented challenging agility and coordination exercises. I highly recommend you all try something like this, and in general, keep trying different workout routines for the purpose of working different muscles and skills. You never know, you may just find a new workout you love and that also keeps you in shape for when we get back on the court.

Cooking has remained a huge staple to my routine, or at least enjoying the fruits of Sofia’s labor! Though, I was responsible for the seafood and chicken enchiladas this week (recipe included at the end of this post). Meanwhile, our dishwashing schedule and organization method needs some refining, considering we seem to use every utensil in the kitchen, for every meal!

I really do hope you are all finding some way to stay connected to tennis. I am adding at least one new video a week with lessons and drills that you can actually do at home. Everything is now conveniently organized into a website consisting of a blog and video feed (www.tennisprotom.com). I encourage you to send me your videos, or request any content you would like to see, and I will deliver.

It is also important to be prepared for the reality that the game will not be the same as before. For example, we will not be able to touch other server’s balls. I know some will struggle with this, so start practicing your juggling and racquet handling skills so that you can maneuver retrieving a ball without touching it. As long as we are all prepared for these changes, and can apply the same patience we are learning in quarantine, we will be just fine transitioning out of quarantine.

As for this week’s video… I discuss how to implement the continental grip into your volleys, master the overall mechanics, and practice them in your driveway. There is also another video in the feed entitled “Master the Continental Grip” that explains how to locate the continental grip.

Something that I was reminded of this week was how Ted Williams missed three seasons in the middle of his prime due to World War II. Just imagine what so many have sacrificed throughout the years for the greater good. Otherwise, until next week, keep calm, please stay healthy, and continue to take advantage of this time to take on new projects, connect with friends and family, eat delicious meals, and rest.

This week’s survival mechanisms:

Movie Recommendation: 1917 – On Demand rental

Documentary Recommendation: The Last Waltz featuring The Band

Show Recommendation: Some Good News with John Krasinski - YouTube

Non-Screen Activity: Baking – This week I baked my first cake!

Epic Walk: Babson / Olin Colleges

Smoothie Recipe: Acai Banana Goji Peach (1 serving size)

1 cup almond milk

1 handful greens of choice

1 banana

.5 cup peaches

1 frozen acai blueberries pack

2 Tbs goji berries

2 Tbs hemp seeds (or other super food / supplement)

Dinner Recipe: Enchiladas

Chicken: skinless chicken breasts or leftover chicken works

Beans: Black beans, pinto, white, or lentil, I would even try refried beans

Tortillas: Corn are traditional, though I used flour and easier to roll

Cheese: I used cheddar inside, and pepper jack on top. Other shredded cheeses work

Toppings: Chopped fresh cilantro, sliced avocado or guacamole, diced red onion, sour cream, whatever else sounds good!

Sauce: I used organic Mole sauce and Trader Joes taco sauce mixture though this website has a secret sauce in their recipe…

1.) Prepare sauce

2.) Prepare filling – sauté onion, followed by the diced chicken. Season with salt and pepper. Then stir in the black beans to complete filling.

3.) Assemble enchiladas – Lay single tortilla on flat surface. Spread generous spoonful of enchilada sauce over surface of tortilla. Then spoon your filling down the middle of the tortilla, roll it up, and…

4.) Arrange the enchiladas in a baking dish – you can arrange seam-side up or seam-side down. Then pour any remaining sauce over enchiladas and sprinkle on some extra cheese

5.) Bake the enchiladas – Bake uncovered until the enchiladas are cooked through and the edges of tortilla get slightly crispy. Remove from oven, sprinkle with favorite toppings, and…

6.) Serve warm and Enjoy!
